This series of articles and the accompanying videos are part of an ongoing project to illuminate the people, products, and vendors that make up the IT security industry. The vendors paid for the video production.
Commtouch has been in stealth mode for 20 years. Industry veterans know that many of the endpoint security suites, UTM devices, and even cloud services make use of Commtouch for URL content filtering, spam filtering, and malware detection.
According to Lior Kohavi, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the newly branded Cyren, 180 security vendors have licensed their intellectual property (IP). Cyren is a re-branding of Commtouch as it moves into the product space.
Along with hiring Lior — who has a long track record in security including, Cylink, Whale Communications, and Microsoft — Cyren has acquired two companies recently. Reykjavik based FRISK was acquired in 2012. Its anti-virus client added to the cloud email protection from Eleven, a Berlin based company, gives Cyren everything they need to brand and deliver their own security products.
Of course Cyren is not abandoning their partners. These new capabilities will be offered to their partners as additional products to expand their own offerings.
Watch my interview with Lior Kohavi to get a better understanding of the new offerings as well their cloud infrastructure and research capabilities.
