Trustwave announced on Monday that it had acquired data security provider Application Security Inc., for an undisclosed sum as Trustwave continues its strategy of acquiring security technology vendors to spur its growth.
Eleven-year-old Application Security evolved from web scanning and column encryption of databases to a complete database protection company. Competitors include California-based Imperva and Israel-based GreenSQL.
One of the largest privately held security vendors with a deep set of product offerings and managed security services, Trustwave said it took the move to strengthen its ability to protect high-value data.
“Disparate products and manual tools and processes just can’t keep up with the pace of today’s threats. By joining forces with Application Security, Trustwave can help customers strengthen security across their environment—from the network, applications, Web, and down to the data itself—so they can more effectively fight cybercrime, protect data and reduce security risks.” Trustwave Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert J. McCullen said in a release.
Trustwave said it will continue to develop, support and offer both Application Security, Inc. products, DbProtect and AppDetective Pro and will integrate and use those products throughout the Trustwave portfolio.
